Hogan Assessment

The Hogan Assessment is the tool we turn to most when a leader wants a clearer picture of how they show up, both on a normal day and under stress. It captures not just how you see yourself, but how others are likely to see you. The gap between intention and perception is where most of the useful coaching conversations live.

Kirkland Path

What It Measures

The Hogan suite has three reports, each working a different angle.

  • Potential — Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI)

How you typically approach work and interactions. Your everyday strengths and tendencies.

  • Challenge — Hogan Development Survey (HDS).

The tendencies that can derail your performance under stress. This report is unique to Hogan and often the one that produces the most aha moments.

  • Values — Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI).

What actually drives and motivates you, including the kind of work environment in which you'll thrive.

Together, the three reports let you see your intention, see your impact, and start closing the gap. The tool is useful at every career stage; it travels well from individual contributor to senior executive.

When It's Useful

A few situations where the Hogan tends to land particularly well:

  • You took it as an Owen student more than seven years ago and want a current read.
  • You are stepping into a new role and want a clearer picture of your style before you walk in.
  • You have been getting feedback you cannot quite reconcile with how you see yourself.
  • You want to understand what tends to happen to your behavior under stress, before the next stressful stretch hits.

The assessment itself is data. The value comes from the debrief.

How To Get It

There are two ways to add the Hogan to your toolkit:

Hogan Assessment Plus

For alumni who want the assessment and a structured debrief, but are not ready to commit to a full coaching engagement. The offering includes the Hogan Assessment plus two sessions with an executive coach to walk through your results, and a follow-up conversation once you've had time to digest them. A good way to test the waters.

Add It to a Coaching Package

If you are already engaging with a coach through one of the Silver, Gold, or Platinum packages, you can add the Hogan Assessment for an additional $250. Your coach may suggest this as part of your engagement, or you can decide on your own.

If you are not sure which path fits your situation, email alumni.ldp@vanderbilt.edu and we will help you figure it out.
