Library Use Policies

Masks must be worn in all university buildings and classrooms. The Owen building will be cleaned twice daily by a cleaning crew.

Hours

The library will be open from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Book/Equipment Checkout

Books are available by self-checkout through the checkout@vandylibraries app ­– instructions will be posted in the library.

Please note that reserved textbooks and equipment may not be checked out at this time. All reserves will be electronic and embedded in Brightspace courses. Contact ManagementLibrary@vanderbilt.edu if you have questions about access to required textbooks.

Library Staffing and Services

Library staff will be working on an exclusively remote basis for the time being. Consultations will be handled remotely. Email managementLibrary@vanderbilt.edu to make an appointment or ask a question. The library will hold virtual office hours via zoom from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. Additionally, the library website has a chat feature that will be monitored from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Databases and software are available remotely with VMWare. Four library computer terminals will be available for student use. The majority of our database resources are available remotely.

Library workshops and programming will resume later in the year, most likely in a virtual setting. 

Print Center

The print center is open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. every day of the week. Only one person may use the center at a time. One printer (PRISM) is available for use. Paper will be provided.

Please note that faculty will not require any classroom work or homework to be completed on paper.

First Floor

The reading room areas of first floor serves as a classroom. The reading room is reserved exclusively for classes when they are in session. When class is not in session, the reading room may be used for quiet study.

The terminal area adjacent to the reading room has been adjusted to ensure proper social distancing and may be used accordingly.

The conference room on the first floor is reserved exclusively for use by faculty and staff; it has a physical distance capacity of two (2). It can be booked via EMS.

Second Floor

The second floor has been updated to ensure proper social distancing in all reading areas and may be used accordingly.

Study Rooms

Students, faculty, and staff may reserve study rooms through EMS. Only one person is allowed in each study room. Room 15 is not in use at this time.

Masks are required to be worn in study rooms. During video job interviews, students may remove their mask for the duration of the interview only.

“Interview in Progress” signs, to post on study room doors,  are available at the library service desk.

Students, faculty, and staff may use unoccupied rooms that aren’t booked.

Restrooms

The second floor library restrooms are open for use. They are all-gender, individual-use restrooms.

Elevator

One person may use the elevator at a time.
