Vanderbilt Business is known across the globe for its high caliber of students, faculty, and staff. In this edition of People of Vanderbilt, we spotlight second-year MBA student Emily Brennan, who shares a little about herself.

What’s your secret talent?
I can play the ukulele!

Who or what empowers you at Owen?
My fellow classmates. Being in an environment where learning, growing, and supporting each other is so commonplace is really empowering!

What are 1 or 2 experiences that have really shaped your time here at Vanderbilt?

The creation of MBA Ladies! While creating and running the podcast is separate from Owen, interviewing guests has been a really awesome way to learn more about my fellow classmates, specifically my fellow female classmates, and their experiences

before and during business school. One of my favorite things about the students of Owen is everyone’s diverse backgrounds— we’ve interviewed teachers, nurses, career-switchers, beer enthusiasts, and more!

What’s your favorite way to connect with the Vanderbilt community?

Through clubs and extracurricular events! There are so many different ways to get involved at Owen, and there are always a lot of events and programming that happen throughout the week. It’s a great way to connect outside of the classroom!

What’s something you’ve learned about yourself during your time at Vanderbilt?

How much I’m capable of! Sometimes it can be intimidating seeing how accomplished my fellow classmates are, and the imposter syndrome can creep in. That being said, I feel like my time at Owen has helped me push past that and given me opportunities to really flex my skills, both old and new.

Are you in a leadership role associated with Vanderbilt? If so, name the organization and title.

Yes, I serve as the VP of Internal Community Affairs in the Women’s Business Association (WBA).
