Vanderbilt Business welcomes Daniel Cohen, Frances Hampton Currey Professor of Accounting, as one of 6 new additions to the faculty, effective fall 2022.

Daniel CohenCohen’s research focuses on the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and financial reporting and disclosure decisions. He primarily investigates public firms and how regulation changes influence both firms’ and investor behavior.

“Accounting is a unique field that allows us to use actual data and see how the world works,” says Cohen. “It excites me to study what happens when new laws and regulations pass and to try and explain observed behavior in the capital markets.”

Cohen’s research has been published in leading accounting journals, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, and Contemporary Accounting Research.

Cohen comes to Vanderbilt from Mays Business School at Texas A&M, where he was a Chaired Professor in Accounting. Throughout his career, he has taught numerous accounting classes to undergraduates, MBAs, and Ph.D. students. This year, Cohen will teach Financial Reporting II in Mod 2.

“I’ve learned that the biggest impact I make is on students in the classroom,” says Cohen. “It gives me joy to interact with people from different backgrounds. I love when I receive emails from previous students sharing their career experiences and how it connected to my class.”

Cohen received a BA in Economics and Statistics and an MBA (Finance) from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. He graduated with his PhD in Accounting from Northwestern University.

He is very active in the research community; among various editorial/reviewer involvement, he currently serves as an Editor for Contemporary Accounting Research.

Outside of work, Cohen enjoys exploring restaurants and traveling with his wife and 2 kids.
