Biography

As a leader of the entrepreneurship center, Germain Boer has inspired, educated, and supported generations of entrepreneurs at Vanderbilt Business.

Awards & Accomplishments

Germain has been listed in Outstanding Young Men of America, Who’s Who in American Education, and Outstanding Educators in America. He’s received five teaching awards from Owen and was named outstanding teacher in the Executive MBA program in 1999.

Consulting

Germain has 30 years of consulting experience across several industries, working with companies and institutions such as General Electric, Tennessee Valley Authority, John Deere, and the National Heart and Lung Institute.

Leadership

Professor Boer steered the initial effort to create the Owen Entrepreneurship Center, creating conferences, experiential programs, and an alliance with the technology incubator BizTech. He serves on several boards, including Cumberland Emerging Technologies, Encapsula Nanosciences, and the Nashville Capital Network. He is an Angel investor in about ten companies and serves on advisory boards for startup companies. He also served as Interim Dean of the Owen School (1986-87), as a Faculty Resident with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Chicago and as a Project Manager with the Institute of Management Accountants in New York City.

Publications

Germain has published more than 20 articles in several prominent journals, including Management Accounting, The CPA Journal, Journal of Cost Management, and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. He has authored or contributed to 11 books.

Research Interests

Germain focuses on financial management, startup financing for new ventures, cost accounting, technology commercialization, and institutional structures that encourage innovation.
