With two of the world’s top-10 economies, one-fifth of the global oil supply, and a surging middle class, Latin America plays more of a vital role in business than perhaps anytime in history.
To help fellow MBA students explore the region’s unique opportunities, Vanderbilt University’s Latin Business Association has established the first U.S.-based Latin Business Case Competition. This inaugural event will be held March 27-28 at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management in Nashville, Tenn.
The Latin Business Challenge is open to MBA teams from top business schools and is being sponsored by Deloitte, AT&T, and Vanderbilt University’s Center for Latin American Studies.
The competition will explore the motivations and challenges of international business expansion within Latin America. One week before the event, each team will receive a business case discussing real-world issues encountered by a contemporary firm operating in the region.
“The students that have brought this case competition together — all of them from Latin American backgrounds — are excited to foster a greater awareness and better cultural and economic understanding about this region among their business school peers,” said Miguel Palacios, Assistant Professor of Finance at Vanderbilt and the group’s faculty advisor.
“We thought the timing was right to launch a U.S.-based MBA case competition focusing on Latin America,” said Luciana Ortega (MBA ’14), president of the Vanderbilt Latin Business Association. “Our classmates, professors, and recruiting companies are all recognizing the increasingly important role these economies are playing in global business.”
