The Vanderbilt MS Finance program is excited to announce that it has been designated as a STEM degree program. The designation allows international students to prolong their training in the US by 24 months.
How does it work?
Under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, international students who graduate from colleges and universities in the United States are able to remain in the country and receive training through work experience for up to 12 months.
Now that the Vanderbilt MS Finance program has achieved the STEM designation, international graduates on F-1 visas can remain in the U.S. for an additional 24 months, utilizing the OPT STEM extension.
In sum, International Vanderbilt MS Finance students can work in the U.S. within their field of study for a total of 36 months after graduation.
What are the benefits?
“The STEM designation gives our international students additional advantages to stay in the US, practice the skills they have honed and really solidify an experience base over 3 years that will complement the education they received at Owen,” said Cherrie Clark, MS Finance Director, Owen Graduate School of Management.
“The opportunity to work in the US for three years prior to needing an H-1B visa gives our graduates additional time to establish themselves professionally as well as increases the likelihood of domestic employers retaining talent that is coveted around the globe,” added Blake Gore, Senior Associate Director, Career Management Center, Owen Graduate School of Management.
