Biography

With 20 years of business practitioner experience, Bruce Lynskey brings Owen extensive first-hand, real-world knowledge of the art and science of entrepreneurship, along with his global network of business contacts. His entrepreneurship course, "Launching the Venture," and his strategy course, "Managing Fast Growing Businesses," attract students from Vanderbilt's law, medical, and graduate engineering schools - as well as Owen students. He also teaches a course in the Law and Business Program and supervises more than 50 student-staffed, strategy analysis projects per year hosted by large and small businesses throughout the country.

Prof. Lynskey's hands-on business experience ranges from executive officer posts in early-stage start-ups to Fortune 500 enterprises. His first start-up experience was in the networking equipment sector at Wellfleet Communications, which Goldman Sachs took public in the early 1990s. Prof. Lynskey played a key role in landing Wellfleet at #1 on Fortune's list of the 100 fastest growing publicly traded American companies in 1993, and again in 1994 - making Wellfleet the only firm ever ranked #1 twice on Fortune's list. When Wellfleet acquired SynOptics Communications and formed Bay Networks, Prof. Lynskey served as Managing Director of Asia Pacific Rim Marketing Operations, running his 11-nation operation from Australia and Singapore. Bay Networks entered the Fortune 500 in 1997, before Nortel Networks acquired them for $7 billion. Professor Lynskey has held executive officer positions with other early stage technology firms - two of which have been acquired; the others are still privately held. Prof. Lynskey is a co-founder and a member of the Board of Directors at Veran Medical Technologies - a venture-funded medical device firm. He is a co-founder and a member of the Board of Directors of Neoflect, Inc,, a next generation high technology firm.

Professor Lynskey is a Founding Director of the Nashville Capital Network, a regional angel investor network focused on seed investments in early-stage ventures. He holds Advisory Board positions with Capital Confirmation - a financial Web services firm, and with Encapsula NanoSciences, a biotech-nanotech firm. He has served as a consultant in the financial services and high technology sectors. Professor Lynskey is a member of the Society of Business Leaders.
