Biography

Biography

Jackie Silverman is an Associate Professor of Marketing. Her research focuses on consumer behavior and judgment and decision making.

Professor Silverman is especially interested in how technology shapes everyday decisions and consumer well-being. Technology allows consumers to track so much information, from workout routines to time spent on social media to calories consumed. Her research explores the effects of this behavioral tracking, with particular attention to how highlighting behavioral streaks – sequences of consecutive repeated behavior – influences people’s motivation and decisions. Professor Silverman also studies individuals’ inferences and behavior in contexts like predictions and forecasting, prosocial action, memory, and experiential choices.

Jackie Silverman received her PhD in Marketing from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was a professor at the University of Delaware's Lerner College of Business and Economics for six years before joining the Owen faculty. Her research is published in top journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Management Science, and Psychological Science, and her work has been covered by outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Choiceology Podcast with Katy Milkman.

At Owen, Professor Silverman teaches MGT 6361 Marketing Management, or the Marketing Core for MBAs.
