During a Town Hall meeting on September 2, 2009, Dean Jim Bradford recognized several Class of 2010 MBA students for their first-year achievements.
Eric Bilbrey and Cara Tragseiler each received the Bruce D. Henderson Award, tying for the highest GPA at the conclusion of the first year of the MBA program.
Pepe Biasca and Alejo Icaza each received the J. Dewey Daane Award for performance in international courses and contributions to international management issues. Joe Boulier and Matt Clemson each received the Edmund Fitzgerald Award for demonstrating extraordinary grasp of and commitment to global issues. Mikael Jacobs received the Richard S. Weinberg Award for outstanding performance in Finance.
CLARCOR World Shaper Award Winners
Dean Bradford recognized the following students as the winners of the 2009 CLARCOR World Shaper Award for outstanding leadership within the Owen community. Each recipient receives a $5,000 scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year.
Ed Bayer–For the 100% Owen organization, Ed served as Social Events Vice President, Sports Vice President and Auction Vice President. He was the co-organizer of the 100% Owen Trivia Night in 2008-09 and served as the Event Chair. In addition, Ed was on the planning committee for the 100% Owen Auction this spring and was extensively involved in fundraising for the Boys and Girls Club. He is also Treasurer of the Law & Business Club and works in Alumni Relations for the Owen Media & Entertainment Group.
Craig Brooks–Craig has been recognized for his efforts to coordinate collaboration among the Executive MBA students. He provides feedback to the Executive MBA staff and faculty on the program. He also organizes social events for the Executive MBA community. He is developing a plan to connect second-year EMBA students with incoming students through a mentoring program.
Marie D’Englere–Marie is a Campus Visit Coordinator, helping to prepare and implement the recruiting weekends for our newly admitted students. Marie is also the Vice President of Communications for Owen Student Government Association and aims to ensure that the student body remains informed. Marie is an active member of the Women’s Business Association, the Global Business Association and 100% Owen. Marie was also instrumental in executing 2009 Orientation.
Matt Hancock–Matt is President of the Finance Club and serves as an Economic Advisor for the Max Adler Student Investment Fund. The Max Adler group manages approximately $200,000 in market value and the income generated by the fund is dedicated to the creation of student scholarships. Matt has been very helpful to his classmates as a mentor and Peer Coach to first-year students.
Burch Wood–Burch is very active in student initiatives and is currently acting as the Executive Vice President and President of the Senate of the Owen Student Government Association. Burch guided the process of rewriting the Owen constitution by seeking and incorporating student input. Burch is also the Vice President of Finance for the Vanderbilt Health Business Association. Burch was helpful in mentoring the students in the newest degree program at Owen–the Master of Management in Health Care. Burch tutored the 24 professional students in finance and statistics and acted as a teaching assistant.
