Josh Schutzman, Asset Management, Fidelity

Josh Schutzman (MBA’18) first got interested in finance through personal investing and eventually was able to transform his hobby to a full-time role with the help of his MBA and Fidelity. His day job was supply chain management, but as he taught himself how to analyze stocks and bonds, he realized he wanted to make a career out of finance. But not just any role in finance; specifically, he wanted to pursue asset management and manage funds hands-on.

To that end, Schutzman studied for the CFA exams and passed Level I before he even came to Owen. He landed an internship at the pension fund in the Tennessee Treasury Department and then leveraged that experience into a full-time role as part of Fidelity’s Financial Leadership Program.

“Don’t be afraid, especially in your first year, to go after what you really want,” he said. “For me, it was asset management. Despite not having any formal background, I continued to push and push until I was able to get something.”
