Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management is excited to announce the launch of Accelerator®—Finance Bootcamp.

Accelerator—Finance Bootcamp is a three-and-a-half-day course tailored to undergraduate students interested in a career in finance. For students with little or no financial education, the program offers a chance to learn the fundamental skills needed to earn their first position in the field.

“Our finance bootcamp is a unique opportunity for liberal arts students to take the first step towards a career in finance and banking,” said Gregory Harvey, Program Director. “Students will quickly discover if the finance industry is a viable and satisfying career path.”

The program is designed to provide a top-level understanding of complex principles such as financial statements, market efficiency, valuing stocks and bonds, and corporate financial policy. Students will also begin to acquire basic skills in Microsoft Excel, learn the language of business, and earn a Vanderbilt certificate.

“The purpose of the finance bootcamp is to develop a fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of corporate finance,” said Assistant Professor of Finance and course instructor Joshua T. White. “Students will develop the tools needed to make value-creating investment and financing decisions.”

Through classes, hands-on case studies, and project work, participants will learn about what it takes to succeed in several finance positions, including investment banking, equity research, fintech, and private equity.

“The course content is carefully designed to provide participants with an overview of how to access and interpret real financial filings and use that information to perform financial valuation and financial analysis,” said Richard Willis, Professor of Accounting and Bootcamp course instructor. “The course will emphasize real-life case examples coupled with group learning activities to further reinforce the concepts.”

Students will also have the opportunity to begin building a network of students, finance professionals, and world-class faculty.

Course instructors are full-time Vanderbilt faculty members. Willis has extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting; he has been recognized frequently for excellence in teaching in the U.S. and abroad. White has been an Expert Consultant and Financial Economist for the Securities and Exchange Commission, whose work has been featured in a variety of financial and legal publications. Professor of Operations Management Larry LeBlanc teaches several spreadsheet-driven analytics courses at Vanderbilt Business, receiving many honors for his teaching and research.

Accelerator–Finance Bootcamp will be held May 29 – June 1, 2018, at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
