After Luis Fontenoy (MSF’21) graduated from the University of Kansas with a triple major in accounting, finance, and economics, he landed a job in consulting at Deloitte. A few months into his job, he realized that he really enjoyed finance, started searching for ways to transition into the industry, and discovered the Vanderbilt MSF program. “Being an international student, the STEM certification and the Career Management Center were 2 key differentiators that I thought would help me land a job in the U.S.,” he said.

In early September, Fontenoy began first round interviews with Citibank, and eventually received a full-time offer as an Investment Banking Analyst with the Latin America coverage group at Citibank in New York City. “I look forward to the opportunity to learn more about the transaction process and develop a robust business skill set while working in a very collegiate environment with people that seem very friendly,” he said.

Fontenoy says that using all of the resources at his disposal — such as the Career Management Center, interview prep guides, alumni networking, and his classmates — were essential to a successful job search process. He also shared some advice for students currently going through the recruiting process: “You need to understand that there are a multitude of prepared and smart candidates out there, and you have to work hard and push the envelope when it comes to networking and looking for opportunities,” he said.
