Welcome to Nashville—and to graduate school at Vanderbilt Business! Whether you’re here for the MBA grind, the MMark hustle, or diving into another program at Vanderbilt Business, Nashville quickly becomes more than just the infamous bachelorette peddle tavern and incredible Broadway lights. It has depth, personality, and just the right amount of character—if you know where to look.
To make the transition easier and help you feel at home faster, we have pulled together a list of 10 must-visit spots that are for the local and the curious tourist. They are low-pressure and worth a visit while you’re learning to make Nashville feel like home—the kind of places you might stumble into on a random Thursday night and talk about for weeks.

This guide highlights top things to do in Nashville for Vanderbilt Business students—curated by a Vanderbilt University student, for fellow students.
1. The End
Best for intimate concerts and loud memories
Tucked just off Elliston Place, The End is a no-frills music venue that packs a punch. With big names like the Goo Goo Dolls plastered on the cinder block walls, it was the first venue I ever went to at Vandy, and it is still one of my favorite spots for live shows that feel personal. Expect grungy floors, the alternative Belmont artist, unexpected late-night convos, and maybe your next favorite band.
2. Exit/In
Best for checking “only in Nashville” off your list
Just across the street, Exit/In is a historic venue that has hosted everyone from REM to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It walks the line between old-school and always-relevant—and it is a rite of passage for music lovers in the city with incredible artists always passing through. Exit/In even has a tradition of offering free entry to fans with a tattoo of its logo — a detail that speaks to the venue’s one-of-a-kind culture.
3. Printer’s Alley
Best for local nightlife without the Broadway chaos
A neon-lit alleyway tucked downtown with the perfect speakeasy, fever-dreamish vibe. Whether at Bourbon Street Blues or Skull’s Rainbow Room, it has got character for days. Come here when you want a night out that feels a little more chill than the typical Broadway hustle and bustle.
4. Dozen Bakery
Best for Sunday mornings to keep away the all too real Sunday scaries
Tucked into a rather dim industrial building in the quaint neighborhood of Wedgewood-Houston, Dozen has some of the best baked goods in the city. It is not the loud and hectic La La Land you might find in 12 South but rather simple, chill, and very much worth it.
5. East Nashville
Best for vintage finds, dive bars, and coffee that is actually worth 8 bucks
This neighborhood is the crown jewel of Nashville cool. Think thrift stores, murals, and the well-regarded indie plant shop. It has cafes that serve your latte with a side of indie music brought to you by the aspiring Belmont artist. Plan to wander and meet the too cool for school.
6. Sylvan Park
Best for low-key food and a break from the bustle of the city
Just west of campus, Sylvan Park is a neighborhood vibe all its own. Grab brunch at Answer, margs at Poncho and Lefty’s, or take a walk through Richland Creek Greenway. Chill, charming, and underrated for when you need that wholesome Sunday dinner or mid-work week break.
7. Belmont Boulevard
Best for a coffee walk that turns into a full afternoon
From Bongo Java to Proper Bagel, this area mixes that all too familiar college-town ease with good bites. It is a short drive (or really long walk) from campus and perfect for slow Saturdays or mid-week exploration to see how the overly creative and musically-inclined kick it.
8. Five Points
Best for neighborhood hangs and live music with character
Centered in East Nashville, this historical intersection is home to peak dive bars like the Pearl Diver, incredible live music from insane artists—rumor has it you might even catch Tom Hanks’s wife (I did not know she sang either), and some of the city’s best pizza (Five Points Pizza is the only answer). Start your night here and see where it takes you.
9. Radnor Lake State Park
Best for the “touch grass” moments
Just 15 minutes from campus, Radnor is where you go to mentally reset. Hike solo, spot some squirrels, and recharge after a tough week of classes and the never-ending recruiting cycle.
10. Centennial Park
Best for outdoor hangs and catching your breath
A classic for a reason. Just a few blocks from campus, the park offers picnic-perfect, Insta-worthy lawns, walking trails, and a full-size replica of the Parthenon with a not too shabby art museum. It is definitely a tourist go-to, but if you are sticking around Nashville, it is where we Vandy students go when life needs to slow down.
