Delivering a World of Talent

King Turns Expertise into Global Career

Erika Bogar King
Chief People Officer, Sutherland Global Services

Vanderbilt MBA 1999

Erika Bogar King enrolled at Owen hoping to leverage her human resources experience into a broader arena. Now, her Vanderbilt MBA has taken her places she once could only imagine.

As National Director of Talent Delivery for Deloitte Consulting, Erika traveled extensively — most recently, from her home in Atlanta to Mexico City to help the firm handle an acquisition there.

“Deloitte was great,” Erika says, “because it’s national. It’s global. So I could basically live anywhere. As long as I was willing to travel, I could live anywhere I want and just go see anyone that I needed to around the world.”
Despite her travels, Erika devotes much of her to the Owen Alumni Board. She invests in the Owen community largely because, as a student, she recognized just how beneficial it was “to have alumni with real-life experience coming in and talking about what they’ve done in the real world.”

“I try to come back every year and either speak to the HR students here or do recruiting,” she says. “In fact, my firm is one of the top recruiters here.”

A glance at Erika’s personal life also speaks to other life-changing opportunities a Vanderbilt education provides; she met her husband here when they “were in first and second mod together.” Erika smiles, perhaps recalling the rigorous demands of those early months at Owen, “We didn’t start dating until much later in the year.”
