In 2010, Asian Investor magazine named Huimin Wu as one of the 25 Most Influential People in Asian Hedge Funds. Based on his track record, it’s not hard to understand why.
As the magazine noted, just six years after launching his own fund, Wu “has already made a strong impact and is and one of the best known of the Chinese managers within the alternatives world.”
An engineer by training, Wu’s career took off after he completed his MBA. From Vanderbilt, he want to Hong Kong, where he was Senior Portfolio Manager for State Street Global Advisors. He enjoyed great success in running the firm’s Hong Kong, China, and EAFE portfolios. For three years, he was Head of China for State Street. He also served on the foreign advisory team for the China National Council for Social Security Fund and on the foreign expert team for the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Building on his success at State Street, Wu founded Prime Capital Management in 2003. There, he oversaw the Dragon Billion Greater China Fund, which Asian Investor ranked among the “standouts” of the first decade of the 21st century. In 2006, the fund earned a return of 126% and peaked the next year with assets of $831 million.
In 2010, Wu co-founded Trivest Advisors, a China-focused hedge fund focusing on Chinese securities predominately listed on international stock exchanges. By the middle of the decade, Trivest was overseeing more than $900 million in investments.
