Taking Health Care to a Higher Level

Consultant gains wider, deeper understanding

Peter Attwater
Senior Manager, Deloitte Consulting

Vanderbilt MBA 2014

As consultants, Peter Attwater and his wife often find themselves traveling to new places. Fortunately, that’s something they enjoy. In fact, they chose South Africa and the Seychelles as the spots for their honeymoon — “an amazing experience,” Peter says.

So when he was ready to take the next big step in his health care career, relocation was not an obstacle. But he didn’t have to go far from Atlanta, where he had spent six years with a consulting firm that specializes in helping hospital clients solve problems and improve processes related to managed care and revenue cycle management.

“Health care is the industry I am passionate about,” says Peter, who also enjoys running and watching North Carolina Tar Heels basketball. “My career aspiration is to become a partner and advisor to health care clients as a consultant. I chose to pursue an MBA to refresh my overall business knowledge and broaden my perspective of the overall health care industry. I chose Vanderbilt because of its Health Care MBA specialization and the greater health care community in the Nashville area.”

During his time at Owen, Peter was especially impressed with both the faculty and his fellow students. “My favorite professor was Larry Van Horn, who taught Health Care Economics and led the fall break Health Care Immersion Week." Larry brings a passion for a greater understanding of the economics of health care to the future of our country each time he interacts with his students.

“My classmates had a diverse set of experiences and truly challenged my thinking. I learned from the other students just as much as I learned from the professors.”
