Biography

Michael is an entrepreneur, investor, and healthcare strategist with 30 years of experience leading healthcare organizations. Throughout his career, Michael has led 3 PE-backed firms to successful exits and invested in an Angel, Venture, and Private Equity Investor in multiple companies.

Michael is a Professor of the Practice of Management at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management and serves as Faculty Director of Vanderbilt’s Center for Entrepreneurship.

Michael also serves as Chief of Strategy and Talent Development for Shore Capital, a micro-cap investment firm based in Chicago, IL. There he leads strategic planning for Shore’s portfolio companies as well as Talent Development across 42 owned corporations and over 30,000 team members. He serves as Lead Director and Board member for five of Shore’s companies and directs Shore University - the firm’s talent development platform.

Michael began his career at Hospital Corporation of America after graduating from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1983. Michael also holds an MBA from Belmont University and a Doctorate in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Michael has been named Nashvillian of the Year (2014) and Tennessean of the Year (2015). He Chaired the National Advisory Council on Innovation & Entrepreneurship for President Obama (2013 – 2016). He is also a board member of the Nashville Healthcare Council (NHCC) and chairs the Healthcare Fellows program for NHCC.

Michael is a frequent National speaker on innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategy for corporations and trade associations. He resides in Nashville, TN.
