6 New Faculty Members to Join Vanderbilt Business in Fall 2022

New faculty members bring expertise in Accounting, Finance, Strategy, and Economics

Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management will begin the 2022-23 Academic Year with 6 new full-time faculty members. 

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional scholars to the Vanderbilt Business Community,” says M. Eric Johnson, Ralph Owen Dean, and Bruce D. Henderson Professor of Strategy. “The new Vanderbilt faculty bring distinctive strengths and new perspectives in topics from Accounting to Finance to Strategy and Economics.”

Accounting

Daniel Cohen, Professor of Accounting, earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2004. Before joining Vanderbilt, Cohen taught at Texas A&M University. His research focuses on the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and financial reporting and disclosure decisions. Cohen will teach Financial Reporting

Finance 

Daniel Bias, Assistant Professor of Finance, earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the Technical University of Munich in 2020. While obtaining his Ph.D., Bias visited the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include entrepreneurial finance and labor and finance. Bias will teach Corporate Valuation and Managerial Finance

Johan Cassel Pegelow, Assistant Professor of Finance, earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Oxford in 2020. Before joining Vanderbilt, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Private Capital Project at Harvard Business School and visiting research fellow at the Swedish House of Finance. His research primarily focuses on private equity. Pegelow will teach Investments and Private Equity/Venture Capital.

Strategy and Economics

Roxanne Jaffe, Assistant Professor of Strategy, earned her Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from the University of Maryland in 2022. Before obtaining her Ph.D., Jaffe worked as an analyst in the Financial Economics practice at Charles River Associates. Her research interests include strategy, international business, location choice, and formal and simulation modeling. Jaffe will teach Business in the World Economy

Xi Kang, Assistant Professor of Strategy, earned her Ph.D. in Strategy from INSEAD in 2022. Before academia, Kang co-founded a consulting firm. Her research interests include technology management, strategic human capital, organization design, and strategy. Kang will teach Game Theory.   

Sruthi Thatchenkery, Assistant Professor of Strategy, earned her Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University in 2016. Before joining Vanderbilt, Thatchenkery taught at University College London. Her research focuses on how firms engage with external environments during the innovation process. Thatchenkery will teach Innovation Strategy and Strategic Management of Technology
