Biography

Hugh S. (“Beau”) Cummins, III, is head of the Corporate and Institutional Group at Truist Financial Corporation, the nation’s premier financial services company serving approximately 12 million households. He assumed his current position on December 2019, upon the closing of the merger of equals between BB&T Corporation and SunTrust Banks, Inc. He is a member of the company’s executive leadership team.

In his role, Cummins oversees Truist’s Corporate & Institutional Group, which comprises of the following lines of business: Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Treasury Solutions and Grandbridge.

Before joining Truist predecessor SunTrust in 2005 as head of Debt Capital Markets, Cummins held numerous leadership positions with Bank of America, including global head of Investment Grade Origination, global head of Foreign Exchange and co-head of Global Interest Rate and Commodity Derivative Sales. He began his investment banking career at Citibank in its global derivative products business.

He subsequently served as chairman, president & chief executive officer of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, the corporate and investment banking division of SunTrust, from 2008-2013. He then served as Commercial and Business Banking executive from 2013 until being named Wholesale Segment executive in 2017. He added the title of co-chief operating officer in 2018.

Cummins serves on the Owen board of visitors at Vanderbilt University and is the chairman of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. He is a past chairman of the board of trustees of the Fine Arts League of the Carolinas and was formerly on the board of trustees for YoungArts in Miami. Cummins has served as a board member of ABA Securities Association and is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Foreign Exchange Committee. He is also a two-term, past member of the Business Advisory Council at Miami University’s Farmer School of Business.

Cummins earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.
