MAcc Leadership
Development Program

Overview

Vanderbilt’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) offers you an experience unlike any other MAcc program in the country. Learn more about yourself and your work style through industry-proven assessments, and work with executive coaches to help you turn personal insights into personal success strategies.

How it Works

Vanderbilt MAcc students benefit from the Hogan Assessment and executive coaching in LDP.

Working in Teams

Prepare to transition from achieving as an individual contributor to working on and leading client service teams by first developing strong team identity with your MAcc classmates.

Hogan Assessment & Internship Prep

Make a plan for internship success by understanding your talents more fully and identifying underdeveloped areas that may need bolstering before or during your internship experience. By employing a leadership assessment used to develop leaders in more than half of the Fortune 500 companies, including the Big Four accounting firms, you will gain insights and practical tips for building a professional reputation consistent with your personal goals, values and technical skills.

Executive Coaching

Work with a certified executive coach who will challenge you with new ways to leverage your internship experience, amplify your strengths and set goals for mitigating your weaknesses as you look forward to your full-time role after graduation.

FAQ

Leadership Development

Q. Is the Leadership Development Program part of the curriculum?
A.

No, LDP is not part of any curriculum at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. By design, LDP supplements your academic work to help you develop as a more capable, well-rounded accounting professional. Just like in business—when your company offers you access to resources dedicated to high-potential leaders—your level of initiative, openness to new challenges and drive for success are demonstrated by how you leverage those resources.

Q. If MAcc LDP is not part of the curriculum, why do students participate?
A.

What you learn about yourself through LDP can shape how you perform during your internship, how you lead or contribute to high-functioning student and work teams and how you build your career. MAcc LDP is designed to further the purpose of your MAcc program and to help you become a complete accounting professional.

Q. What is the Hogan Assessment?
A.

Hogan is a personality-based assessment used by more than half of the Fortune 500 companies—including Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PWC—to hire and develop individual leaders like you. Hogan was developed to improve workplace performance and is used among companies globally.

Q. Who are the executive coaches?
A.

Our executive coaches in the Owen Coaching Network are a carefully vetted, high-performing set of independent coaches whose full-time job is to coach executives, leaders and future leaders in industry. Their primary clients are corporate leaders, and they take on as many Owen student coaching clients as their schedules will allow in a given year. Our coaches are qualified and certified by the International Coach Federation, and the coaches who work with MAcc are a specific subset of the larger network. Our MAcc executive coaches have extensive experience working as accounting professionals, working with accounting professionals and/or coaching accounting and early career stage professionals.
